Before I begin, take a minute to look at your screen time from last week, and ask yourself these questions:
“What did I look at that that improved my life, knowledge, or mental well being, and where did that content come from?”
“What did I look at that made me compare myself, my relationships, my job, my house, my kids, or my wealth? and where did that content come from?”and “How did it make me feel?”
(my answers are at the end)
I decided to cut back on social media, because it was literally driving me insane. The algorithm knows how to make your brain addicted and before you know it, you waste hours of your life doom scrolling through too much information. Our brains were not made to look at a screen with hundreds of thousands of info being sent to our brain all day. And now with the AI slop, and just everything being so curated and fake, it was time for me to pull back.
I am sure a lot of you can relate. I also know that with all the information out there, it is hard to know what to listen to as far as skin care knowledge goes. Influencers are really good at their jobs! and no, I don’t mean skin care, I mean selling. They are great at selling products, editing videos, and making people think they are the experts (and most literally have never touched somebody else’s skin or understand skin physiology) . There is too much information out there, it is difficult to know what works for your skin, because everything sounds too good to be true! Probably because it is.. The other issue i have with social media is that I want to post helpful information for my clients and people near me in my community, however that doesn’t mean any of you will actually see it. If nobody interacts with my content, then nobody sees it. PLUS it is difficult to retain knowledge in social media formats.
SO I DECIDED TO DISCONNECT FROM SOCIAL MEDIA AND CREATE A FREE WEEKLY NEWSLETTER INSTEAD <3
Each week, I am going to be doing a small educational blurb about the skin, skin ingredients, health or something that I find is important for you to know. (and hopefully can retain!) I also will share updates at TruePenny, myself, and things I found to be really interesting or funny.
This weekly newsletter will also be posted to my blog on my website, so you can easily find information I have talked about in the past.
My answers from above:
I LOVE podcasts, and books. Long form content sticks in my brain and is the most motivating to my health, wealth, life, and relationships. (This week I learned something that I was able to share with a friend to help her with some elbow pain she has been having.) I also have a couple email newsletters I read every week (or daily) along with newspaper here in Berthoud. I love consuming information this way!
For me personally, I had been comparing myself, my business, and my relationships to literal strangers on the internet, AND IM LIKE WTF WHY!?!?! Just because somebody has a lot of followers and likes, does NOT correlate to their business knowledge, their business success, or that they are actually good at their jobs. It translates to luck, and if they won the social media algorithm. (A friend even told me that they went to a massage therapist they thought would be AMAZING because of her social media, and she said it was the literal worst massage ever.) All this comparison I was doing was making me feel jealous, frustrated, unmotivated and mean to myself.
My first newsletter will be sent out next week, as I feel like this one was already long enough. <3
✨ Things I'm Loving Lately
Mat + Motion is opening right next door to me! I am so excited, Ashlee and Amanda are bringing barre, mat pilates, strength, and yoga classes to downtown Berthoud. I listened to this youtube podcast video where Amanda talks about joyful brews, mat + motion, and just what inspired her to teaching fitness classes.
